What are Bots
Internet bots, also known as web robots, WWW robots or simply bots, are software applications that run automated tasks over the Internet. Typically, bots perform tasks that are both simple and structurally repetitive, at a much higher rate than would be possible for a human alone. The largest use of bots is in web spidering, in which an automated script fetches, analysis and files information from web servers at many times the speed of a human.In addition to their uses outlined above, bots may also be implemented where a response speed faster than that of humans is required (e.g., gaming bots and auction-site robots) or less commonly in situations where the emulation of human activity is required, for example chat bots.

You can do lot of interesting stuff with Google Talk like get alert notifications, save bookmarks to delicious, manage web calendars, set reminders, write blogs, and so much more.

Such features can be easily integrated into Google Talk through ‘bots’ which, in simple English, are like virtual friends who are online 24×7 and will always respond with a smile to your questions or requests.

Here are the eleven most useful ‘bots’ that transform Google Talk into a more useful program:

1. Imfeeds- imfeeds@gmail.com - Add this IM Feeds bot as your Google Talk buddy and you’ll be able to read any blog or website that syndicates content via RSS feeds.

To subscribe to a website in GTalk, simply send a new IM message that says "sub labnol.org" where labnol.org is the site address that you want to read inside Google Talk.

2. Friend Feed - friendfeed@bot.im - This secret bot lets you post to FriendFeed from Google Talk. You may submit either hyperlinks or text messages.

3. Imfeed - imified@imified.com - This imified bot turns Google Talk into a real powerhouse.

For instance, you can simply say "digg" and it will show a list of all feeds that match that search term so you don’t have to type (or copy-paste) feed addresses.

5. Translation - This is a free service from Google that helps you translate words from a foreign language into your native language. Just add the relevant bot (e.g. hi2en@bot.talk.google.com for Hindi to English or en2hi@bot.talk.google.com for English to Hindi) as your buddy, send him a message and it will get translated instantly.

6. Use Google Talk with Twitter - Invite twitter@twitter.com to become your friend in Google Talk and verify your account. Now whenever you IM this new friend, the message will automatically publish on your twitter account.

7. Set Task Reminders - If you need to remember something important, Google Talk can send you reminders for that event.

Just add timer to your Twitter friend’s list and then add twitter@twitter.com to your buddy list in Gtalk. Now if you want to get a reminder after 50 minutes, send a direct message to twitter like "d timer 50 pick kids from school" and a reminder will automatically pop up in your Google Talk after 50 minutes.

8. Transliteration - If you want to chat in your mother tongue (like Hindi or Tamil) but feel more comfortable using the English keyboard, Google Transliteration bot will come in handy.

For instance, add en2hi.translit@bot.talk.google.com to you friend’s list in GTalk and all messages you type in English will get transliterated in the language of your choice. Available only for a few Indian languages.

9. Xpenser - With xpenser, you can record travel expenses via email, SMS or even Google talk. Add xpenserbot@gmail.com as your buddy and send a message like "lunch 33.2 with Bill Gates" and that will be added as an expense to your online spreadsheet that can be accessed from anywhere.

10. Ping.fm - Like Imified, ping.fm is one of the most useful Google bots out there especially if you are a social networking or micro-blogging addict.

11. Add pingdotfm@gmail.com to Gtalk and you can communicate with twitter, jaiku, wordpress, identi.ca, facebook, myspace, bebo, friendfeed, linkedin, tumblr, plaxo, friendster, delicious and more.

12. Meshly - Add meshly@gmail.com as your friend and you’ll be able to post web link to your Meshly account via Google Talk. You can also add tags, categories and description to your hyperlink via Gtalk itself.

What is an Easter Egg ?
A virtual Easter egg is an intentional hidden message or feature in an object such as a movie, book, CD, DVD, computer program, web page or video game. The term draws a parallel with the custom of the Easter egg hunt observed in many Western nations, but actually is derived by the practice of the last Russian imperial family's tradition of giving elaborately jeweled egg-shaped creations by Fabergé which usually contained hidden gifts themselves.

This practice is similar in some respects to hidden signature motifs such as Diego Rivera including himself in his murals, Alfred Hitchcock's legendary cameo appearances, and various "Hidden Mickeys" that can be found throughout Disneyland. An early example of these kind of "Easter eggs" is Al Hirschfeld's "Nina."

Atari's Adventure, released in 1979, contained what was thought to be the first video game "Easter egg", the name of the programmer (Warren Robinett). However, evidence of earlier Easter eggs has since surfaced. Several cartridges for the Fairchild Channel F include previously unknown Easter eggs, programmed by Michael Glass and Brad Reid-Selth, that are believed to predate Robinett's work The 1978 Atari arcade games Orbit and Skydiver also include Easter eggs, programmed by Owen Rubin, though unlike Glass and Reid-Selth's eggs, the method of triggering these has yet to be discovered. Despite this evidence of prior art, Robinett's egg was certainly the first of its kind to be discovered and, consequently, the first Easter egg to come to widespread attention.

Installation and Uninstallation

Open++ submenu is similar to the standard "Send To" menu but is much more advanced, since it allows you to customize the Title, Program, Arguments, Working Directory, Icon, Associated File Types for all commands that are added to the shell context menu.

In addition, Open++ also provides some advanced features, such as Open a MS-DOS Command Prompt window and enter into the current target folder, Copy the path of the target file or folder to the clipboard, Run the program with parameters, Register or unregister the self-registered COM dll files, Open or close CD drive, Set created and modified time for the target file or folder, and much more. Customize

To customize Open++, right click a file or folder icon, or a folder background in Windows Explorer, then select "Customize..." in Open++ submenu.

% Notes: If you are opening Open++ Customize dialog in another Windows Explorer already, the menu item "Customize..." in Open++ submenu will be grayed to avoid launching multiple instances of Customize dialog.

Commands

Lists the titles of the commands currently added to Open++ submenu. Use the "Add" button to add a command into the menu. Use the "Delete" button to remove a command from the menu. Use the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons to change the order of the commands that appear on the menu.

Add

Add a new command, separator, or one of predefined commands to Open++ submenu.

% Notes: Please be aware that Open++ has limitation of number of customized commands. Due to operating system limitations, you cannot add unlimited number of commands or separators to Open++ submenu. The maximum number of commands and separators that can be added to Open++ submenu is 128. It depends on how many other shell context menu extensions you have installed and how many menu items are occupied by those other shell context menu extensions.
Delete

Remove the selected command from the list of Commands as well as from Open++ submenu.
Move Up

Move the selected command higher in the list of Commands that appear on Open++ submenu.

Title

Specify the title of the command that will appear on Open++ submenu.
Program

Specify the path of the program to be used for opening the target file or folder. You can enter the program directly or click the arrow button to select a program file. If the file resides on the system path, you can enter just the file name. If not, enter the full path of the program. Environment variables can be used in the program.
Arguments

Specify the variables that are passed to the program when the command is selected on Open++ submenu. Arguments can specify values that are passed to the program when it is executed. For example, a value can specify a file name or directory. Click the arrow button to select from a list of predefined macros as the arguments. You can also enter custom arguments (for example, command line switches), depending on the program you use. Environment variables can be used in the arguments.
Working Directory

Specify the working directory of the program. This can be either the path of the program or the path of the target file or folder. Click the arrow button to select from a list of predefined macros as the working directory. Environment variables can be used in the working directory.
Icon

Specify the icon of the command which will be displayed beside the command in Open++ submenu. Click the arrow button to select from a list of predefined macros as the icon. Environment variables can be used in the icon.

% Notes: If the icon string is empty, Open++ will not show the icon beside this command in Open++ submenu.
Associate with Files

Specify the file types that will be associated with the command. Open++ will not show this command in Open++ submenu if the target file does not match the specified file types. A file types string can be a combination of an asterisk (*) wildcard character and a valid file extension. Do not include spaces in the file types string. To associate the command with multiple file types, use semicolon to separate the file types (for example, "*.txt;*.htm;*.log").

Associate with Folders

I am going to post a trick, which many of you may be interested to know that how to change background of a Folder in Windows XP. After much Googling on this topic I've found two ways one is related to coding, so it is recommended to advanced users and the other way is by using a simple software which anyone can easily use.
I am posting the most convenient way over here. For this you need to get a software named "SodaBush Windowpaper XP". It is a freeware and you can get it from its Official Web-site's download page

Make backup of your phone contacts in Nokia

Now days, it is a requirement to make backup of your telephone contacts. As one day your phone may get damaged or there might be some other misshappening..
To do this with your Nokia Multimedia Phone, you need to have a Nokia PC Suite which can be Downloaded from here(62 MB) and a bluetooth dongle or Connecting cable for your phone. After installing Nokia PC Suite, connect your Phone with your PC and click on Contacts Image in PC Suite. This will Open Nokia Communication Center.

Now, select all your contacts and Export them to a csv or txt file.
It was so simple.
Similarly you can also Import Contacts from a previous backup using PC Suite. I've done it with my Nokia 3110c

BandWidth Explained

Most hosting companies offer a variety of bandwidth options in their plans. So exactly what is bandwidth as it relates to web hosting? Put simply, bandwidth is the amount of traffic that is allowed to occur between your web site and the rest of the internet. The amount of bandwidth a hosting company can provide is determined by their network connections, both internal to their data center and external to the public internet.

Network Connectivity

The internet, in the most simplest of terms, is a group of millions of computers connected by networks. These connections within the internet can be large or small depending upon the cabling and equipment that is used at a particular internet location. It is the size of each network connection that determines how much bandwidth is available. For example, if you use a DSL connection to connect to the internet, you have 1.54 Mega bits (Mb) of bandwidth. Bandwidth therefore is measured in bits (a single 0 or 1). Bits are grouped in bytes which form words, text, and other information that is transferred between your computer and the internet.

If you have a DSL connection to the internet, you have dedicated bandwidth between your computer and your internet provider. But your internet provider may have thousands of DSL connections to their location. All of these connection aggregate at your internet provider who then has their own dedicated connection to the internet (or multiple connections) which is much larger than your single connection. They must have enough bandwidth to serve your computing needs as well as all of their other customers. So while you have a 1.54Mb connection to your internet provider, your internet provider may have a 255Mb connection to the internet so it can accommodate your needs and up to 166 other users (255/1.54).

Traffic

A very simple analogy to use to understand bandwidth and traffic is to think of highways and cars. Bandwidth is the number of lanes on the highway and traffic is the number of cars on the highway. If you are the only car on a highway, you can travel very quickly. If you are stuck in the middle of rush hour, you may travel very slowly since all of the lanes are being used up.

Traffic is simply the number of bits that are transferred on network connections. It is easiest to understand traffic using examples. One Gigabyte is 2 to the 30th power (1,073,741,824) bytes. One gigabyte is equal to 1,024 megabytes. To put this in perspective, it takes one byte to store one character. Imagine 100 file cabinets in a building, each of these cabinets holds 1000 folders. Each folder has 100 papers. Each paper contains 100 characters - A GB is all the characters in the building. An MP3 song is about 4MB, the same song in wav format is about 40MB, a full length movie can be 800MB to 1000MB (1000MB = 1GB).

If you were to transfer this MP3 song from a web site to your computer, you would create 4MB of traffic between the web site you are downloading from and your computer. Depending upon the network connection between the web site and the internet, the transfer may occur very quickly, or it could take time if other people are also downloading files at the same time. If, for example, the web site you download from has a 10MB connection to the internet, and you are the only person accessing that web site to download your MP3, your 4MB file will be the only traffic on that web site. However, if three people are all downloading that same MP at the same time, 12MB (3 x 4MB) of traffic has been created. Because in this example, the host only has 10MB of bandwidth, someone will have to wait. The network equipment at the hosting company will cycle through each person downloading the file and transfer a small portion at a time so each person's file transfer can take place, but the transfer for everyone downloading the file will be slower. If 100 people all came to the site and downloaded the MP3 at the same time, the transfers would be extremely slow. If the host wanted to decrease the time it took to download files simultaneously, it could increase the bandwidth of their internet connection (at a cost due to upgrading equipment).

Hosting Bandwidth

In the example above, we discussed traffic in terms of downloading an MP3 file. However, each time you visit a web site, you are creating traffic, because in order to view that web page on your computer, the web page is first downloaded to your computer (between the web site and you) which is then displayed using your browser software (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.) . The page itself is simply a file that creates traffic just like the MP3 file in the example above (however, a web page is usually much smaller than a music file).

A web page may be very small or large depending upon the amount of text and the number and quality of images integrated within the web page. For example, the home page for CNN.com is about 200KB (200 Kilobytes = 200,000 bytes = 1,600,000 bits). This is typically large for a web page. In comparison, Yahoo's home page is about 70KB.

How Much Bandwidth Is Enough?

It depends (don't you hate that answer). But in truth, it does. Since bandwidth is a significant determinant of hosting plan prices, you should take time to determine just how much is right for you. Almost all hosting plans have bandwidth requirements measured in months, so you need to estimate the amount of bandwidth that will be required by your site on a monthly basis

If you do not intend to provide file download capability from your site, the formula for calculating bandwidth is fairly straightforward:

If you intend to allow people to download files from your site, your bandwidth calculation should be:

Let us examine each item in the formula:

Average Daily Visitors - The number of people you expect to visit your site, on average, each day. Depending upon how you market your site, this number could be from 1 to 1,000,000.

Average Page Views - On average, the number of web pages you expect a person to view. If you have 50 web pages in your web site, an average person may only view 5 of those pages each time they visit.

Average Page Size - The average size of your web pages, in Kilobytes (KB). If you have already designed your site, you can calculate this directly.

Average Daily File Downloads - The number of downloads you expect to occur on your site. This is a function of the numbers of visitors and how many times a visitor downloads a file, on average, each day.

Average File Size - Average file size of files that are downloadable from your site. Similar to your web pages, if you already know which files can be downloaded, you can calculate this directly.

Fudge Factor - A number greater than 1. Using 1.5 would be safe, which assumes that your estimate is off by 50%. However, if you were very unsure, you could use 2 or 3 to ensure that your bandwidth requirements are more than met.

Usually, hosting plans offer bandwidth in terms of Gigabytes (GB) per month. This is why our formula takes daily averages and multiplies them by 31.

Summary

Most personal or small business sites will not need more than 1GB of bandwidth per month. If you have a web site that is composed of static web pages and you expect little traffic to your site on a daily basis, go with a low bandwidth plan. If you go over the amount of bandwidth allocated in your plan, your hosting company could charge you over usage fees, so if you think the traffic to your site will be significant, you may want to go through the calculations above to estimate the amount of bandwidth required in a hosting plan.

You have just been struck by the Blue Screen of Death. Anyone who uses Mcft Windows will be familiar with this. What can you do? More importantly, how can you prevent it happening?

1 Hardware conflict

The number one reason why Windows crashes is hardware conflict. Each hardware device communicates to other devices through an interrupt request channel (IRQ). These are supposed to be unique for each device.

For example, a printer usually connects internally on IRQ 7. The keyboard usually uses IRQ 1 and the floppy disk drive IRQ 6. Each device will try to hog a single IRQ for itself.

If there are a lot of devices, or if they are not installed properly, two of them may end up sharing the same IRQ number. When the user tries to use both devices at the same time, a crash can happen. The way to check if your computer has a hardware conflict is through the following route:

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Device Manager.

Often if a device has a problem a yellow '!' appears next to its description in the Device Manager. Highlight Computer (in the Device Manager) and press Properties to see the IRQ numbers used by your computer. If the IRQ number appears twice, two devices may be using it.

Sometimes a device might share an IRQ with something described as 'IRQ holder for PCI steering'. This can be ignored. The best way to fix this problem is to remove the problem device and reinstall it.

Sometimes you may have to find more recent drivers on the internet to make the device function properly. A good resource is www.driverguide.com. If the device is a soundcard, or a modem, it can often be fixed by moving it to a different slot on the motherboard (be careful about opening your computer, as you may void the warranty).

When working inside a computer you should switch it off, unplug the mains lead and touch an unpainted metal surface to discharge any static electricity.

To be fair to Mcft, the problem with IRQ numbers is not of its making. It is a legacy problem going back to the first PC designs using the IBM 8086 chip. Initially there were only eight IRQs. Today there are 16 IRQs in a PC. It is easy to run out of them. There are plans to increase the number of IRQs in future designs.

2 Bad Ram

Ram (random-access memory) problems might bring on the blue screen of death with a message saying Fatal Exception Error. A fatal error indicates a serious hardware problem. Sometimes it may mean a part is damaged and will need replacing.

But a fatal error caused by Ram might be caused by a mismatch of chips. For example, mixing 70-nanosecond (70ns) Ram with 60ns Ram will usually force the computer to run all the Ram at the slower speed. This will often crash the machine if the Ram is overworked.

One way around this problem is to enter the BIOS settings and increase the wait state of the Ram. This can make it more stable. Another way to troubleshoot a suspected Ram problem is to rearrange the Ram chips on the motherboard, or take some of them out. Then try to repeat the circumstances that caused the crash. When handling Ram try not to touch the gold connections, as they can be easily damaged.

Parity error messages also refer to Ram. Modern Ram chips are either parity (ECC) or non parity (non-ECC). It is best not to mix the two types, as this can be a cause of trouble.

EMM386 error messages refer to memory problems but may not be connected to bad Ram. This may be due to free memory problems often linked to old Dos-based programmes.

3 BIOS settings

Every motherboard is supplied with a range of chipset settings that are decided in the factory. A common way to access these settings is to press the F2 or delete button during the first few seconds of a boot-up.

Once inside the BIOS, great care should be taken. It is a good idea to write down on a piece of paper all the settings that appear on the screen. That way, if you change something and the computer becomes more unstable, you will know what settings to revert to.

A common BIOS error concerns the CAS latency. This refers to the Ram. Older EDO (extended data out) Ram has a CAS latency of 3. Newer SDRam has a CAS latency of 2. Setting the wrong figure can cause the Ram to lock up and freeze the computer's display.

Mcft Windows is better at allocating IRQ numbers than any BIOS. If possible set the IRQ numbers to Auto in the BIOS. This will allow Windows to allocate the IRQ numbers (make sure the BIOS setting for Plug and Play OS is switched to 'yes' to allow Windows to do this.).

4 Hard disk drives

After a few weeks, the information on a hard disk drive starts to become piecemeal or fragmented. It is a good idea to defragment the hard disk every week or so, to prevent the disk from causing a screen freeze. Go to

* Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Disk Defragmenter

This will start the procedure. You will be unable to write data to the hard drive (to save it) while the disk is defragmenting, so it is a good idea to schedule the procedure for a period of inactivity using the Task Scheduler.

The Task Scheduler should be one of the small icons on the bottom right of the Windows opening page (the desktop).

Some lockups and screen freezes caused by hard disk problems can be solved by reducing the read-ahead optimisation. This can be adjusted by going to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System Icon-Performance-File System-Hard Disk.

Hard disks will slow down and crash if they are too full. Do some housekeeping on your hard drive every few months and free some space on it. Open the Windows folder on the C drive and find the Temporary Internet Files folder. Deleting the contents (not the folder) can free a lot of space.

Empty the Recycle Bin every week to free more space. Hard disk drives should be scanned every week for errors or bad sectors. Go to

* Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-ScanDisk

Otherwise assign the Task Scheduler to perform this operation at night when the computer is not in use.

5 Fatal OE exceptions and VXD errors

Fatal OE exception errors and VXD errors are often caused by video card problems.

These can often be resolved easily by reducing the resolution of the video display. Go to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-Display-Settings

Here you should slide the screen area bar to the left. Take a look at the colour settings on the left of that window. For most desktops, high colour 16-bit depth is adequate.

If the screen freezes or you experience system lockups it might be due to the video card. Make sure it does not have a hardware conflict. Go to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Device Manager

Here, select the + beside Display Adapter. A line of text describing your video card should appear. Select it (make it blue) and press properties. Then select Resources and select each line in the window. Look for a message that says No Conflicts.

If you have video card hardware conflict, you will see it here. Be careful at this point and make a note of everything you do in case you make things worse.

The way to resolve a hardware conflict is to uncheck the Use Automatic Settings box and hit the Change Settings button. You are searching for a setting that will display a No Conflicts message.

Another useful way to resolve video problems is to go to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Performance-Graphics

Here you should move the Hardware Acceleration slider to the left. As ever, the most common cause of problems relating to graphics cards is old or faulty drivers (a driver is a small piece of software used by a computer to communicate with a device).

Look up your video card's manufacturer on the internet and search for the most recent drivers for it.

6 Viruses

Often the first sign of a virus infection is instability. Some viruses erase the boot sector of a hard drive, making it impossible to start. This is why it is a good idea to create a Windows start-up disk. Go to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs

Here, look for the Start Up Disk tab. Virus protection requires constant vigilance.

A virus scanner requires a list of virus signatures in order to be able to identify viruses. These signatures are stored in a DAT file. DAT files should be updated weekly from the website of your antivirus software manufacturer.

An excellent antivirus programme is McAfee VirusScan by Network Associates ( www.nai.com). Another is Norton AntiVirus 2000, made by Symantec ( www.symantec.com).

7 Printers

The action of sending a document to print creates a bigger file, often called a postscript file.

Printers have only a small amount of memory, called a buffer. This can be easily overloaded. Printing a document also uses a considerable amount of CPU power. This will also slow down the computer's performance.

If the printer is trying to print unusual characters, these might not be recognised, and can crash the computer. Sometimes printers will not recover from a crash because of confusion in the buffer. A good way to clear the buffer is to unplug the printer for ten seconds. Booting up from a powerless state, also called a cold boot, will restore the printer's default settings and you may be able to carry on.

8 Software

A common cause of computer crash is faulty or badly-installed software. Often the problem can be cured by uninstalling the software and then reinstalling it. Use Norton Uninstall or Uninstall Shield to remove an application from your system properly. This will also remove references to the programme in the System Registry and leaves the way clear for a completely fresh copy.

The System Registry can be corrupted by old references to obsolete software that you thought was uninstalled. Use Reg Cleaner by Jouni Vuorio to clean up the System Registry and remove obsolete entries. It works on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE (Second Edition), Windows Millennium Edition (ME), NT4 and Windows 2000.

Read the instructions and use it carefully so you don't do permanent damage to the Registry. If the Registry is damaged you will have to reinstall your operating system. Reg Cleaner can be obtained from www.jv16.org

Often a Windows problem can be resolved by entering Safe Mode. This can be done during start-up. When you see the message "Starting Windows" press F4. This should take you into Safe Mode.

Safe Mode loads a minimum of drivers. It allows you to find and fix problems that prevent Windows from loading properly.

Sometimes installing Windows is difficult because of unsuitable BIOS settings. If you keep getting SUWIN error messages (Windows setup) during the Windows installation, then try entering the BIOS and disabling the CPU internal cache. Try to disable the Level 2 (L2) cache if that doesn't work.

Remember to restore all the BIOS settings back to their former settings following installation.

9 Overheating

Central processing units (CPUs) are usually equipped with fans to keep them cool. If the fan fails or if the CPU gets old it may start to overheat and generate a particular kind of error called a kernel error. This is a common problem in chips that have been overclocked to operate at higher speeds than they are supposed to.

One remedy is to get a bigger better fan and install it on top of the CPU. Specialist cooling fans/heatsinks are available from www.computernerd.com or www.coolit.com

CPU problems can often be fixed by disabling the CPU internal cache in the BIOS. This will make the machine run more slowly, but it should also be more stable.

10 Power supply problems

With all the new construction going on around the country the steady supply of electricity has become disrupted. A power surge or spike can crash a computer as easily as a power cut.

If this has become a nuisance for you then consider buying a uninterrupted power supply (UPS). This will give you a clean power supply when there is electricity, and it will give you a few minutes to perform a controlled shutdown in case of a power cut.

It is a good investment if your data are critical, because a power cut will cause any unsaved data to be lost.

Here is the car for which I am quite eagerly waiting for. Maruti A-Star is all about style and fury.It is all about looks. For example the headlamps, they appear to be like the eyes of an angry lion. How cool is that.The designers have given their best in this car.As mad as the front end of the car is, the rear does is equally so. It is simple, without frills but aggressive still. The sharp-edged tail lamps are mounted high up not only to accentuate the bold ‘S’ badge but also to enhance safety by making it highly visible.

This car has the looks of a fighter plane.The insides of the A-Star can give many a fighter aircrafts quite a complex. The pink illumination on the dashboard looks like the jet’s wings and the air con vents at either ends appear to be the aircraft’s engines! The rugged gear lever shouts ‘sporty’ all over the place as do the aluminum pedals. There is not much to say about the cockpit, for I am speechless.

Change your XP Logon Screen

This trick is very easy to do but it needs Resource Hacker and If you don't already have Resource Hacker go download it now . I have tried this on Windows XP..

Steps

Browse to C:\windows\system32 and copy logonui.exe and paste it to C:\ Now, open C:\logonui.exe with Resource hacker.
Click on Action and then on Replace bitmap. If you are good with graphics you can make your own logon screen, you should be able to scroll thru the bitmaps in this file and figure out what's where. If your not great with graphics :/ like myself, you can download already made graphics and use them, or use them as a template.
To set the size of Bitmap 100: Go into the \UIFILE\1000\1022\ tree and press CTRL+F Now, find Change the entire line to read: Where xxx is put the width e.g. 400rp (the rp @ the end is needed) and where yyy is, put the height e.g. 1000rp. Make sure the image doesn't go over the login names because it slows down to a snails pace (fading etc.)
Once you have everything the way you want it, just save the file to C:\ and close Resource hacker. Now, copy the modified logonui.exe to C:\windows\system32 and replace it with original one.
Reboot to see Ur logon screen

If some your friend want to download any big file right from your desktop to his using Internet, then File Transfer Protocol is the fastest method. This method can be used to share files at high speed. To do this you need Windows XP installed in your system and an Internet Connection and a router.

To do this first you need to open your Router's configuration page by going to 192.168.1.1 there in set your router's Acess control to FTP Protocol

Now Install FTP Server in your computer by opening control pannel and going to Add/Remove programs. Select Add/Remove Windows Component then select IIS(Internet Information Services) then select details. Tick FTP Service Click Ok, and then click next to Install FTP Server.

When you are done with seting up of your FTP , then open C:/inetpub/ftproot to add files to your server. Your server address will be your ip address which is displayed here below-

Change any XP User Password Without Having to Know the Old One

To change an account password:

After spending hours to make use of my Nokia XpressMusic 5320 as a Web Cam to Chat with my friends I got various software to test and these were WWIGO , VRCC , Mobiola Web Cam , etc.This makes me carry WebCam with me wherever I go.

V.R.C.C. (Video Remote Computer Camera) is a freeware and open source system that enables your symbian smartphone to be used as a Webcam and lets you control the smartphone from the PC.

The system is comprised of two applications, one for the smartphone and one for the PC that communicate using a protocol over a variety of data transmission methods.

Change XP Start Button

Some times You just wanna make that [Start] menu button go away or the geek inside you inspires you to change the start button..but how ? You can change the start button by using various tools but if you wanna do it hardcore then read on...
First you need a tool called "Resource Hacker". This free program allows you to change resources in any .exe file such as "Explorer.exe", which includes the [Start] button's Label. You can visit Download.com and search there for "Resource Hacker" or you can download it here
After you download it, follow the guide here:
Step 1:

A - Run "Resource Hacker" and open the file "%windir%\Explorer.exe".
B - You see a Tree of all Resources in this file, expand the "String Table"
C - Find the "start" and replace it with your own text. then press the [Compile Script] button.
D - Save "Explorer.exe" as "MyStart.exe" DONT save it as Explorer.exe, do "save as.." and give it a new name.
E - Quit "Resource Hacker".

Step 2:

A - Click on the [Start] button and choose the "Run..." item from the start menu. (Or use the shortcut key WinKey+R)
B - Type "RegEdit" in the Run "Dialog Box". And then press the [Ok] buton to run the "Registry Editor" program.
C - Go to: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" and find the "Shell" property.
D - Replace value of the "Shell" property to "MyStart.exe".
E - Quit "Registry Editor".
F - Restart your system.

Note -If you did not find the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon", you can search the Registry for the "Explorer.exe", to do this use the Edit Menu | Find Next (Ctrl+F).

Testing your Anti-Virus

After installing an Antivirus, you may logically wonder, how do I know if it's working ? The answer is a test virus. The EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test File is a combined effort by anti-virus vendors throughout the world to implement one standard by which customers can verify their anti-virus installations.

To test your installation, copy the following line into its own file, then save the file with the name EICAR.COM. More detailed instructions are found below.

Unable to Run Opera Mini in Nokia Series 40 phones...?

Here is the solution if you are having problems running Opera Mini in Symbian Series 40 phones. Assuming that Opera Mini is Already Installed here is the procedure how to do rest.

Go into Settings.
Go into Configuration.
Go into Personal Configuration Settings.
Now, press Add New (visible if you don’t have a previous Personal Setting created) or press the Options button. When you have pressed the Options button, choose Add new.
When you have pressed Add New, you will get a new menu, which will give several options to choose from.
Now, scroll down and choose the Access Point and press Select. (Please note that this option is not available on the Nokia 3220 model and maybe on some more models, you can instead use the Services option instead of the Access Point option on the Nokia 3220.) Do not choose the Web option, since this will not work with Opera mini.
Now go into Access Point Settings.
Go into Bearer Settings.
Go into Packet Data Access Point.
Now, enter you APN address corresponding to your provider. Then press OK.
Go back to the Personal Configurations Settings menu, where you now should be able to see an Access Point selected.
Now press the Options button, and then choose to activate this Access Point.
Now you should be able to start Opera Mini, and try to load a link on your phone.

If you are still having problems with your Nokia S40 2.0 model of phone, please make sure that you have entered all the required information into the APN setting concerning proxy, user name, password, port etc.

Increase Torrent Download Speed

Tired of slow torrent speeds ? Here is guide to make it a faster and better experience.
Hack the max half-open TCP connections
If you’re on XP sp2, your TCP connections are limited to a maximum of 10. This might hurt your downloading speed because it wont let you connect to as much peers as you want. It is supposed to slow down viruses because their spreading strategy is to connect to a high amount of ip numbers, but it could cripple your torrent downloads.
A nice way to fix this is to download this patch.
Note: Some people report that their antivir reports the patch to be a Virus, This is not the case.
The patch allows you to set the maximum allowed connections to any number you want. Any number between 50 and 100 is ok (more is NOT always better).
Next you need to configure your torrent client to allow 50-100 max half-open TCP connections

uTorrent: Options > Preferences > Advanced options > net.max_halfopen

Bitcomet: Options > Preferences > Connection > max half-open TCP

Now you’re ready to go…
A third point of interest is that some “windows updates” revert your tweaked tcp connections back to 10. So it’s wise to check this every now and then. You can check this by going to (in windows xp) Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > System… Look for event 4226(sort by event).

If there are a lot of daily occurences it’s likely that the max amount of half-open tcp connections was set back to 10. Or you’re infected with some nasty spyware…

Torrent Client Configuration
In order to apply these tips you need to know your maximum up- and download speed. You can test your bandwidth over here (stop all download activity while testing). Also make sure that you applied the tips provided in our previous posts.
Note that there’s a difference between kb/s (kilobits/second) and kB/s (kilobytes/second). To be precise, kB/s = kb/s divided by 8. In this tutorial we use kB/s (like most torrent clients do). This means that you might need to calculate your max speed in kB/s yourself if the speedtest only gives you the results in kb\s (so divide by 8 then).
Settings 1-4 can be found in the options, settings or preference tab of most torrent clients.
[1]. Maximum upload speed
Probably the most important setting there is. Your connection is (sort of) like a pipeline, if you use you maximum upload speed there’s not enough space left for the files you are downloading. So you have to cap your upload speed.
Use the following formula to determine your optimal upload speed…
80% of your maximum upload speed,so if your maximum upload speed is 40 kB/s, the optimal upload rate is 32kB/s
But keep seeding!

[2].Maximum download speed
Although setting your maximum download speed to unlimited may sound interesting, in reality it will only hurt your connection. If you still want to be able to browse properly, set your maximum download speed to:
95% of your maximum download speed
so if your maximum download speed is 400 kB/s, the optimal download speed is 380kB/s

[3]. Maximum connected peers per torrent
Yet another setting that you don’t want to max out. I experimented quite a lot with the max connected peers settings and came to the conclusion that both high and low number hurt the download speed of a torrent. The following setting worked best for me.
upload speed * 1.3
so if your maximum upload speed is 40 kB/s, the optimal amount of connected peers per torrent is
40 * 1.3 = 52
I didn’t noticed a difference for fast or slow connections here.

[4]. Maximum upload slots
1 + (upload speed / 6)
so if your maximum upload speed is 30 kB/s, the optimal number of upload slots is general.
1 + (30 / 6) = 6

So 50 seeds and 50 peers is better than 500 seeds and 1000 peers. So, be selective.

Change the default port.
By default, BitTorrent uses a port 6881-6999. BitTorrent generates a lot traffic (1/3), so isp’s like to limit the connection offered on the these ports. So, you should change these to another range. Good clients allow you to do this, just choose anything you like. If you’re behind a router, make sure you have your ports forwarded (portforward.com) or UPnP enabled.

Disable Windows Firewall
It sucks. Windows Firewall hates P2P and often leads a life of it’s own. So disable it and get yourself a decent (free) firewall, Kerio,Comodo or Zone Alarm for example.

Turn on Encryption
Encrypting your torrents will prevent throttling ISP’s from limiting your BitTorrent traffic. Check out how to enable encryption in Azureus, uTorrent, and Bitcomet, the three most popular torrent clients.

Optimize your internet connection
The TCP optimizer is a freeware utility that optimizes your internet connection. I found it very useful and it helped speeding up my connection for regular internet activity and for downloading torrents. Just download it, and move the slidebar to your maximum download rate (note that it’s in kb/s). Don’t try to set it higher because that will hurt your download speeds!

I found 3000 worked nicely but try the 5000 first. 3000 does sometimes leave some programs lagging which then need a further key click.

There can be two methods to do this. The one is in which a software is required, the other is in which it is not required.

I am explaining the one in which no software is required.So, here is the details that how to do it...

Step 1

Open the photo you want to set as icon in your pen drive, in Microsoft Paint.
A square sized photo is recommended.
Then go to File → Save As... and save the file name as autorun.ico in Pen drive's folder. i.e if your pen drive is G: drive then save autorun.ico in G:

Step 2

After saving the Image file as autorun.ico.
Make a file in notepad and write the following:-

Now save this notepad file in Pen Drive as autorun.inf. Now, eject the Pen Drive and re-insert then you should be able to see your photo in place of Pen Drive Icon.

If you change the language from default to any other language, then it may be difficult to switch to default language. The shortcut is very simple. Older Ericssons *#0000# & Newer Ericssons <0000> & Also, pressing <8888> on the newer Ericssons changes the language to Automatic. <> stands for right arrow button or joystick.

Copy & Paste when using phonebook:
Go into "Edit contact", and select the Contact
Scroll down to the number you want to cut and paste.
Without selecting it (ie without clicking on the joystick or the yes button) press and hold the * key, and then press the 1 key. When you release both keys, the highlighted number should disappear

If you've cleared your call list you can easily find unsaved dialed no:
Go to Message then Write New & Press yes. Click on Continue. In the menu to let you key in the number to send msg, press the right up key for more menu & you go to the following list.
Phone book, Groups, Sim entries and Unsaved nos.
Select Unsaved nos, there you will see last 10 unsaved number.
Those numbers can't be erased even you clear your entire call list.

This brief tutorial explains how to add a background image to any folder in Windows XP.
First, make sure that you are able to view hidden files on your system. Then, open the folder for which you wish to add a background image. Right-click the folder and select Properties → Customize tab → Customize. There, choose any icon,you like then click Apply and OK.
That process should have created a "desktop.ini" file,which is Hidden. Open that file with a text editor(such as notepad) and add these lines of

Trick to lock your private folder

now this one is the simple n easy way to lock ur folder n no one will come to know that u hav locked the folder as by double clicking it CONTROL PANEL will open up. well here is the trick.................................................................

Suppose you want to lock the folder movies in d: which has the path D:\movies.In the same drive create a text file and type
ren movies movies.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

(simply copy n paste in notepad)

Now save this text file as loc.bat

Create another text file and type in it
ren movies.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} movies

Now save this text file as key.bat

Now you can see 2 batch files loc and key. and ur folder will change to CONTROL PANEL

Press loc and the folder games will change to control panel and you cannot view its contents. Press key and you will get back your original folder.
try it out!!!!!!!

Just follow the simple steps Below:

1)Right click on the Google Talk shortcut.(note that this is not the one on the task bar it is the one on desktop or on START menu).
2)click on Properties.

3)Go to Shortcut tab on Google Talk Properties window.

4)On the Target textbox, add in the /nomutex to the end of the line so that it looks like below (or you can simply copy and paste the below syntax and replace the original).
“c:\program files\google\google talk\googletalk.exe” /nomutex

5)Click on OK.

you dont hav to do anything after this and CLICKING ON MANY TIMES ON GOGLE SHORTCUT GIVES YOU DIFFERENT GOOGLE TALK WINDOW.........

Just type at the command prompt :

c:\> copy con .hello
<F6>
<Enter>

That will do the trick

a file name .hello will be created in c drive.
